I wish that I could give this six stars. Shakespeare's remains and those of some of his family are respectfully interred here. The church is a working church with a real local congregation, and they open their doors to all comers at this historic landmark. The ability to have a quiet moment (or more) with this kind of history right at your feet is almost without compare in my experience. The staff at the church was wonderful, and after we got talking to them a bit, they showed us some of the other great features of the church (the organ is amazing!) Honestly, this was a moving experience. There is no large exhibit. No hooplah. Just a section of the church with the internment slabs. For me, that made it all the better.
Beautiful little church located on the river. The interior is decorated with stained glass and wood and stone carving. Outside the church there is a little graveyard. This church is where Shakespeare and some of his family members are entombed. I suggest going early in the morning because it gets a little crowded throughout the day. Before you can visit Shakespeare's tomb, they ask for a £3 donation.
