Best Western Grosvenor Hotel

Warwick Rd, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6YT, UK – 0844 387 6237

A very nice 2 night stay for our anniversary. Excellent night's sleep....nearly missed breakfast on the first morning as slept so well. Breakfast was a hot buffet and was really good. Waiters were attentive without being intrusive. Room was very clean. We had a standard and were pleasantly surprised at the amount of space we had. Controlling the radiator was a bit hit or miss.....couldn't seem to get the thermostat to work, so it was either on or off. We opted for on but opened the window when we went to bed as needed the fresh air. Must remember to book a ground floor room next year though as we both struggled with the stairs....could have done with a hand rail on both sides instead of just the one

Very central hotel which did the job. Friendly staff. Bed was really comfortable. Took forever to work out how to have a warm shower but got there in the end. Limited parking. Great value for money.

Mercure Stratford upon Avon Shakespeare Hotel

Chapel St, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6ER, UK – 024 7709 2802

Came here for afternoon tea. Did not stay here so can not rate rooms etc. The afternoon tea was great, my fiance has a nut allergy and the chef prepared a afternoon tea box just for her. It was a great touch and real class. Service was great, sandwiches were very good plus the selection of cakes/scones were delicious. Would definitely recommend this place.

Lovely Royal Engineer Association Christmas dinner. Great food, piping hot and very well cooked and presented. Staff were friendly and helpful. Downside £5.00 for a pint of lager shandy. Seems the half of lemonade is £2 (therefore £4 a pint for a soft drink)

Premier Inn Stratford Upon Avon Waterways

The Waterways, Birmingham Road, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 0AW, UK – 0871 527 9316

Well situated in quiet spot just off the top end of the town centre. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room at a consistent standard for this chain. Food was excellent value and to a good standard, only grumble would be that the food on the "hot" breakfast buffet wasn't particularly warm.

Room had a bit of an odd layout but was clean and comfortable. Car park was very busy and it was a very long walk from the car to the hotel entrance. The hotel is right next to the canal with a lovely view out of the room window to the lock and the McDonald's next door!!!! offers competitive rates for any type of hotel, from small independent hotels to a five star luxury ones. The site is available in 24 languages and offers over 71000 hotels in 71 countries. Could be useful for you. There are of course several such sites.

The Encore

1 Bridge St, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6AB, UK – 01789 269462

One of the nicest places I have eaten all year. More specifically the menu is large and imaginative. The service was excellent although it was a slow day. The atmosphere was great with a real fire and plenty of space. The food when it came was exquisite and presented well, certainly decent value for money. Plenty of interesting ales. Get the baked Camembert starter for the love of all that is good!

We have always had a great experience at The Encore and it's one of my favourite places to eat in Stratford, hence my Husband booking lunch for Mothers' Day. Unfortunately, this time we were disappointed. Starters, lovely. Mains, not so. My Husband and Daughter had steak, both were very fatty and gristly, to the point where more was left than eaten. I had the nut roast, OK, a little too sweet for my palette, but that's a personal thing and not a criticism. What l did find disappointing was the "seasonal vegetables" which consisted of two "sticks" of carrot and one of parsnip. My husband spoke to a member of staff and, to be fair, our bill was adjusted very fairly. This notwithstanding, we will go again as, hopefully, our feedback given at the time will be taken on board. So, sorry guys, l can only give 3 stars where in the past, l would have given a big 5.

The One Elm

1 Guild St, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6QZ, UK – 01789 404919

Very nice renovated classy pub, only called in for a drink on the way back to the hotel, looked at the menu, like you do, it looked expansive and inviting, but we were running out of days Staff were friendly and efficient, prices whilst a little high were acceptable Chris

Nice cosy pub/restaurant. Good food, friendly service and decent beers. Highly recommended.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Just spent a night at this central B & B and it was perfect. Comfortable room with lots of fluffy towels in the bathroom. The owner is very welcoming and my breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended.

Clean tidy. Friendly staff. Tasty breakfast. Well situated

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Stratford Holiday Cottages Self Catering

Shakespeare St, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6RN, UK – 01789 262273

We rented 42 Shakespeare Street for a week for our family who were visiting us. The cottage was excellent in every respect, spotlessly clean and has all the facilities needed to make our family’s stay very comfortable. It was a very short walk to all the tourist attractions. The off street parking was an added bonus in this very busy town.

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Riverside Caravan Park

Tiddington Rd, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 7AB, UK – 01789 292312

Stayed in the snug for 5 days it was really warm and the facilities were great! I would definitely recommend it for a good value getaway! It is within walking distance to Stratford upon Avon and there are a few national trust sites near which you can pop into for day trips. I will definitely be coming back in the summer.

At times tranquil, but can get busy Friday and weekends. Beautiful riverside setting.

Dodwell Park

Evesham Rd, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 9SR, UK – 01789 204957

Lovely welcome. Guys who manage this place are great people. They are not owners. Grounds well maintained. Owners should invest in shower block!! Unfortunately, showers are VERY grotty. Desperately need updating. Shower drains 'back up, & you find yourself paddling in 'used' water uugghh.

Basic campsite. Electric went down for one day but was quickly fixed by the next. Great location for Stratford.
